When to call

Any of these usually means a part has failed or is on its way out.

  • No heat at all

The thermostat calls for heat and nothing happens, or the furnace starts and shuts off a few seconds later.

  • Blowing cold air

The blower runs but the air never warms up. Often an ignition or flame sensing problem.

  • Short cycling

It turns on and off over and over without warming the house.

  • Loud or new noises

Banging at startup, squealing, or a rattle that wasn’t there last winter.

  • Burning or odd smell

A little dust smell on the first cold day is normal. If you smell gas, leave the house and call the gas company first.

  • Some rooms never warm up

Weak airflow, a failing blower, or a duct problem.

Common repairs

The parts that fail most often, in plain language.

  • Igniters

The part that lights the burners. When it cracks or wears out, the furnace tries to start and gives up.

  • Flame sensors

A dirty or failing sensor shuts the burners off seconds after they light.

  • Inducer motors

Pushes exhaust out before the burners light. A failing one hums, rattles or stops the furnace from starting.

  • Blower motors

Moves the warm air through the house. Weak or no airflow usually starts here.

  • Control boards

The furnace’s brain. We test it before replacing it, because the fault is often somewhere else.

  • Pressure switches and limit switches

Safety switches that shut the furnace down when something upstream is wrong.

Repair or replace?

Fixed, not replaced.

Most furnaces that quit need one part, not a new furnace. We test it, tell you what failed and what the repair costs, and you decide. If the heat exchanger is cracked or the repairs keep coming, we'll say so and show you why.

Told by another company it needs replacing?

Get a second look. We'll check whether it can be repaired, and give you the price before we touch it.

These guys were professional, friendly and honest. I did not feel pressured into anything I didn’t need. They explained a lot about my system I had never considered and gave me real peace of mind.

I have been coming back to Zach and Bring It Back HVAC for years now. Every time I have moved I invariably have some sort of furnace issue. These guys are the only group I can count on to tell me what is going on with my system and not just try to sell me a new HVAC!
